Being adopted into a new family is a monumental event in a young person’s life. To prepare children for joining an adoptive family, adoption specialists work to gather information about the children’s lives to help them understand their life histories through therapeutic Lifebook work.
Focusing on the seven core issues of adoption, our adoption staff assists young people in processing loss, rejection, guilt/shame, grief, identity, intimacy, and control regarding an upcoming adoption. In the end, the goal of child preparation is to help young people understand not only the adoption process, but also what it means for them.
