Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management

2021 Charity of Choice

DePaul Community Resources is honored to have been selected as the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management’s charity of choice for 2021.

For over 44 years, DePaul has worked to open doors to hope and belonging for children, families, and individuals with unique challenges across Central and Southwestern Virginia. Funds raised by bank school participants and their organizations will be used to support young people who have aged out of the foster care system as they transition from foster care to adulthood through our Independent Living program.

Virginia is ranked 50th in the nation at achieving permanency before youth age out of foster care.

Without families and the opportunities they need to help them succeed, foster youth are more likely than their peers to drop out of school, become parents before they are ready, experience homelessness, turn to alcohol and drugs, or become incarcerated—costly consequences that affect everyone in the community. Our Independent Living program aims to improve the odds for these youth by providing safe housing, a motivating environment, and the tools young people need to achieve their goals.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 to establish an incentives program for youth that focuses on their strengths and accomplishments—an approach that will resonate with young people from hard places—to reinforce positive behaviors that encourage financial stability and self-sufficiency.
