April, 2026 — To increase access to life-changing services, DePaul Community Resources has expanded its sponsored residential program to include Big Stone Gap and the surrounding areas (Dickenson, Norton, and Wise County). DePaul believes that individuals flourish in an environment where they can live as active members of a family.
“Living in a small town in far Southwest Virginia comes with many benefits: slower paced life, close community, and a lower cost of living,” said Lisa Street, sponsored residential manager. “However, living in a small town also comes with many challenges: limited entertainment, scarcity of well-paying jobs, and, most importantly, less accessibility to needed services.”
Sponsored residential services provide an opportunity for an individual, child or adult, with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities to live in a home with a compassionate caregiver who offers person-centered care in a family setting. DePaul’s compassionate caregivers open their hearts and homes to support individuals in all areas of life. Another unique quality of sponsored residential services is the ability for parents and family members, if eligible, to become a compassionate caregiver and provide supports within an individual’s own home.
To qualify for sponsored residential services, individuals must receive a community living waiver and be served through the local community services board.
