On Saturday, April 1st, children and families served by DePaul were invited to a free day of art and fun at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Va. The full-day experience, sponsored by the For Alison Foundation and the Civitan, allowed participants to access Art Venture, take tours of the exhibits, and engage in a hands-on art experience.
Participants got creative with the specialty art project that let them “take a walk in the artists’ shoes”. Donated shoes provided a canvas for markers, pom-poms, sequins, and copious amounts of craft glue; the art on display served as inspiration for decorating the shoes. Pointe shoes were also available for decorating in honor of Alison Parker’s love of ballet. Thirty-five participants and their families attended the event and enjoyed a beautiful day of family, fun, and art.
