DePaul announces expansion of much-needed services in Richmond area

October, 2023 — In an effort to address a community need and increase access to life-changing services, DePaul Community Resources is expanding its sponsored residential program. DePaul’s new office, located in Hanover County, will embed the organization’s services in the Richmond metro area and extend its reach into the Northern Virginia and Tidewater regions of the state.

“An integral part of DePaul’s mission is to bring hope and belonging within the reach of all, because everyone deserves it,” said Renee Brown, DePaul president and CEO. “Our realized work to increase geographic access is essential to address disparities, promote inclusivity, and further our efforts to support individuals with a disability so they have the services needed to live full lives. We are thankful to be part of this thriving community and look forward to building strong, collaborative relationships within it.”

DePaul’s Sponsored Residential program offers compassionate care in a home-based setting by carefully matching children and adults with developmental disabilities to sponsored residential homes. These homes provide safe and supportive environments that encourage and protect individuals’ independence, dignity, and personal choice. Sponsored residential home providers empower individuals with developmental disabilities to be active members of families, experience community involvement, and find normalcy in everyday life.

This will be DePaul’s second office location in the Richmond metro area. The organization’s office in Amelia has been serving families for 11 years and, throughout that time, has experienced considerable growth. Adding a second office in the area will not only bring services to those in need, but also offer more flexibility and convenience to current families in the sponsored residential program.

“The placement of the Hanover office was one that we gave a great deal of thought to and allows us to better serve ‘both sides of the river’ east and west via these two locations,” said Amber Allen, director of residential services. “In addition, the Hanover office is situated in such a way that we can continue growing and expanding our services north and further east over time bringing needed services to counties where they have been limited for quite some time.”

DePaul is excited for the opportunity to grow the organization’s footprint, making hope and belonging possible today for those who could not imagine it yesterday.
