DePaul announces expansion of Agency-Directed Services Program

April, 2026 — DePaul Community Resources is excited to announce the expansion of its newest program, Agency-Directed Services, into the New River Valley and Lynchburg areas. The Agency-Directed Services program enables Virginians with disabilities and the aging to remain in their homes and communities, protects individual choice, and reduces reliance on nursing facilities, ensuring these populations receive the high level of care and attention that they deserve.

“We’re thrilled to be able to expand to two new service areas,” said Lauren Sherwood, director of ADS. “After seeing the hope and belonging that this service brought to the Roanoke Valley, we know that it will do the same in the New River Valley and in Lynchburg as well. We also hope to be able to partner with the prominent universities with nursing programs in the areas as we hire personal care attendants and nurses to meet the needs of the families we serve. We are looking forward to the positive changes these two offices will bring to the communities around them.”

ADS was introduced for families with a Medicaid waiver in Virginia who need to receive a little extra support at home. Services range from bathing and feeding to mobility support and light housekeeping. When families enter the program, a registered nurse develops a plan of care to meet the unique needs of each individual in the program. The ADS team guides individuals and their families as they choose the care needed and who provides that care, whether it’s a family member, if qualified, or a provider in the area.

DePaul’s ADS program serves all ages from infant to elderly in the Roanoke region, and now, in the New River Valley and Lynchburg areas. DePaul is grateful for the opportunity to reach more individuals and families searching for help at home, hope, and belonging.

When asked how the ADS program has helped his family, a recent client said, “Three days of extremely efficient and friendly attention to detail via DePaul Community Resources is in stark contrast to three months of struggle under the previous model. Perfection and deep gratitude is my feeling … it has all been good so far.” *Name omitted to protect privacy.
