DePaul was founded and incorporated March 7, 1977 in Roanoke as The Achievement Center Specialized Foster Care, Inc. In 1981, we adopted the name DePaul, named after St. Vincent DePaul—the “Great Apostle of Charity.” Over the years, DePaul has grown to become one of Virginia’s largest nonprofit foster care, adoption, and developmental disabilities services organizations, with 13 service locations statewide, more than 150 staff, a network of over 400 care providers, foster and adoptive parents, and a host of volunteers and advocates.

We invite you to join us on March 7, 2024 as we celebrate our 47th anniversary with our third annual Day of Hope. Here are five ways you can celebrate with us:

1. Make a gift of $47 or give $47 a month for the rest of 2024.

To provide ongoing support and stability for our work, select “show my support by making this a recurring donation,” and your gift will be automatically charged to your credit card monthly on the date of your choice.

2. Invite us to speak at your place of worship, work, or civic organization.

The need for foster parents to children in the foster care system and compassionate caregivers to individuals with disabilities has never been greater. Help us reach individuals with a heart for this work by inviting us to speak at your place of worship, workplace, or civic organization. We are available in person and via Zoom. We can also offer trainings on various topics, such as how to build a trauma-informed community. Contact Jorge Santos at 434.201.2186  or via email to learn more.

3. Follow and share us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

4. Display a DePaul yard sign at your home or business to raise awareness.

Spread the word about the need for foster parents and compassionate caregivers to your neighbors or customers with a yard sign. Contact Jorge Santos at 434.201.2186  or via email and we’ll drop a yard sign off at your home or business.

5. Purchase items on our wish lists.

Providing wish list items is a great way to support DePaul and the children, families, and individuals with disabilities we serve. Wish lists are organized by programs within DePaul. Click here to check out our current wish lists.
