On the first Tuesday of every month, if you are a caregiver at any level, you can have coffee for free at Chris’ Coffee and Custard at 10am and mingle with other caregivers.  They are located at 1924 9th Street SE Suite B, Roanoke VA 24013.  Not only that, but it’s a pretty cool place owned by a pretty cool guy named Chris who has Down Syndrome!  Check them out!  https://www.chrisscoffeeandcustard.com/ is their website and they also have a Facebook page.

IEPs can sometimes cause stress and heartache.  Medical Home Plus is an organization that while based in Richmond, they do offer IEP advocacy and consulting throughout the state and like DePaul, they are a nonprofit organization.  They have grant funding available for some cases when needed.  https://medhomeplus.org/

For those who need incontinence supplies, diabetic supplies, or wound care supplies, please check out Home Care Delivered.  They work with Medicaid, and deliver these to your door.  If you are over the age of three, and require incontinence supplies, Medicaid most likely covers these.  This could be a cost savings for your family.  https://www.hcd.com/.

Compounding Pharmacy – If you need any medications compounded or if you need pill packaging or even delivery, Down Home Pharmacy offers these things and is happy to work with both Medicare and Medicaid.  They also offer wellness classes and they have locations in Vinton and Roanoke.  https://www.downhomepharmacy.net/   Also, did you know that Amazon has a pharmacy too?!  Honestly, what will they think of next?!

WIC – If you have Medicaid (even through a waiver), and your child is under 5, you automatically qualify for WIC.  Call or visit your local health department to enroll to receive this support with nutrition and wellness.  You can receive vitamins, essential food, formula, and more through this program for any children under the age of 5 in your household.

Meals on Wheels and Senior Food Boxes – If you think you may benefit from one of these and want more information, call the Roanoke local office of aging at 540-345-0451.  You must be 60 years old or older, and meet the income requirements, but it could be very helpful.  They have many programs and in the Winter months they also offer Soup for Seniors.

Childrens Assistive Technology Service – If you need assistive technology or equipment and cannot get it approved through your insurance, you can reach out to CATS to see if they can assist.  https://atdevicesforkids.org/

Crisis – We know that caregiving can be stressful. If you are ever too overwhelmed – reach out. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers 24/7 call, text, and chat access to trained crisis workers who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress.
