Empowering Families

In her role as a children’s services coordinator for Campbell County, Summer Tetterton is at the root of strengthening families in her community. In collaboration with the area’s Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT), Summer organizes a group of professionals to recommend services to children and families in adverse situations.

Since entering the position four years ago, Summer regularly hears positive feedback from the families her team has referred to DePaul for community-based services. “Our families consistently tell us they are having good experiences as a result of the services they receive from DePaul,” Summer stated. “They have been able to develop the skills necessary to improve their situations.”

One of these families involves a mother and three children who were exposed to domestic violence; Summer’s group referred this family to DePaul’s Parent Engagement Team, a preventative service aimed at keeping intact families together. The team assisted the mother with parenting skills, communication, problem solving, and connection to community resources so the family could work together to overcome the trauma they experienced. As a result, this resilient family was able to accomplish all of the goals set for them in their service plan and continue to be successful today. Moving forward, Summer and her team continue to choose DePaul for “consistent, reliable, and individualized services,” working towards a common goal of empowering families in need.
