DePaul Community Resources Opens New Office In Big Stone Gap, Virginia

At the heart of DePaul Community Resources is the belief that new things are possible when you belong. In that spirit, DePaul secured a local office space in the town of Big Stone Gap in November 2016 to offer support to children and families in Scott, Wise, Lee, and Dickenson counties. This new office provides foster care services throughout the region as DePaul’s westernmost location.

For nearly 40 years, DePaul has served communities in Central and Southwest Virginia with pride, opening doors to hope and belonging to countless children, families, and individuals with disabilities. The work is never done and there is always another child, another family, and another community in need of support.

Despite lacking a physical space, DePaul began groundwork in these four counties two years ago with a homefinder assigned to the area. During research, DePaul discovered that more children coming into care in Virginia were from Wise than any other county. The Big Stone Gap office is already making a difference in the lives of these children and the families ready to open their homes and hearts to them.

The official Grand Opening and ribbon cutting for DePaul Community Resources’ Big Stone Gap office was held by the Wise County/Norton Chamber of Commerce and took place on January 20, 2017. Participating in the event were town and Wise county officials, along with DePaul employees. “DePaul exists to open doors to hope and belonging; no longer will children be afraid to hope or wonder if they will be accepted for who they truly are,” said DePaul Chief Operating Officer Linda Hentschel. “We are excited to partner with the community of Big Stone Gap and it’s surrounding counties.”
