Depaul Community Resources

ADOPTION

Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) is a Child-Focused Recruitment program that is funded by Wendy’s and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. DePaul Community Resources began partnering with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in January 2009 to offer Wendy’s Wonderful Kids’ services in the Roanoke area. Child-Focused Recruitment is defined by the individual children’s needs as opposed to recruitment that uses primarily existing strategies. Children are referred for WWK recruitment services by their custodial DSS workers.

The purpose of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids is to move children with the goal of adoption from foster care to loving, adoptive homes. The Foundation’s vision is that every child will have a permanent home and loving family. Currently, 122 recruiters work on behalf of waiting children in 50 states in addition to Canada. Since the inception of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids in 2004, Wendy’s Recruiters have participated in the adoptions of more than 1,300 children and currently recruit for more than 5000 children nationwide.

Virginia has over 1500 children waiting with the goal of adoption and no permanent family identified. Many of these children have been in foster care for more than three years. Whether they are preschoolers or teenagers, they all deserve parents who claim them as a son or daughter.
