ADOPTION
On any given day in the United States there are over 500,000 children in foster care and over 100,000 of these children are waiting for an adoptive family. Foster care adoption is primarily the adoption of children who have been abused and/or neglected. They have been permanently removed from their birth families and have been placed in the custody of the State. Through adoption and the lasting family relationships, children have the opportunity to heal from the damage and loss of their past and to grow into their full potential as unique individuals. Adoptive parents have the same rights and responsibilities as parents whose children have been born to them. Adoption is a lifelong process and adopted children have all the social, emotional and legal benefits of birth children.
DePaul Community Resources’ Adoption Program was built on the belief that every child is adoptable and deserves to grow up in a permanent, loving family. It is our mission to provide the services and support necessary for each waiting child to achieve permanency through adoption. Our Adoption Program specializes in working with foster children with special needs and the families who adopt them.
